Tips for Selling Your Home During Winter
 
As Canadians, we’re no strangers to sub-zero weather, but snow, ice, rain, and the dreariness that can accompany the season presents its own set of challenges.  If you can’t wait until the weather warms up and you’re preparing to put your home on the market, there are several things you can do to help ensure a successful showing in spite of the less-than-ideal weather. Here are some tips to get you started:
 

• Beginning with the outside of the home, make sure to clear a path through the snow so that your walkway and entrance is visible and hazard-free.

• If it's raining, put a rubber mat by the front door or a container to hold wet umbrellas and shoes.

• Turn up the heat. Having the house heated a degree or two warmer than usual will not only prevent the heat from kicking in when the buyer is present (as some HVAC systems are loud), it will be comfortable enough to give the home buyer a reason to linger if it’s especially cold outside. You might also consider lighting up your fireplace, if you have one.

• Create an atmosphere by turning on soft music – jazz or classical can be soothing, just be sure to avoid any commercial radio stations. Consider placing seasonal flowers strategically throughout the house, setting your dining room table for dinner for two, or even transforming your bathroom into a spa with nice soaps and plush towels.

• Let light in by pulling up the blinds and drawing back curtains. Turn on lamps and ceiling lights to showcase rooms that don’t get a lot of natural daylight, and plug indoor lamps into a timer to automatically turn on at times buyers will be present.

 
There’s no reason to let winter prevent you from highlighting your home’s potential and positive attributes. These tips will help give prospective buyers reason to say “Yes. I want this home.”
